Working across clay, photography and film. Exploring connections between people, places and crafted forms.

Nermin Habib is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bahrain whose practice moves across ceramics, photography and film. Clay currently sits at the center of her work, where she explores how materials, objects and making traditions can shift as they move between people, places and contexts.

Working primarily by hand, Habib builds, presses, folds and suspends clay, often allowing gravity, tension and the behavior of the material to influence the final form. Her work embraces evidence of the making process and often begins with an existing object, material or craft tradition, not to reproduce it, but to consider what else it might become.

Her work has been presented internationally at 1000 Vases during Paris Design Week, Isola Design Festival during Milan Design Week, Isola x Design London during London Design Festival, MADE by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and Tanween at Ithra, as well as at the Bahrain National Museum and exhibitions in Cairo.

Habib’s practice developed through photography and film before expanding into clay. Her award-winning short film Cairo Soul received recognition from Global Shorts and Best Shorts, with imagery from the film later appearing in Pharrell Williams’ Freedom. She holds an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is currently an artist-in-residence at The Art Station in Muharraq, Bahrain.

She is also co-founder of The FN Project (فن), a Bahrain-based collaborative practice with artist and designer Fajr Basri that extends their material experimentation into collectible and functional design.
